About:
Mother Goose’s Bedtime Stories is a celebration of black, brown, and indigenous people. A celebration of queer, gay, lesbian, intersex, transgender, non-binary, pansexual and bisexual. Celebration of womxn. A celebration and intersection of the artistry these powerful people create. This August 30th and 31st, join us as we mark 2 years of creating a space of artistic abundance and meaningful connection and collaboration.

Our mission is to push the arts in new directions, while giving underrepresented and new artists a platform to be seen and heard in a fantastical environment. This fantastical cabaret is part showcase, variety show and part theatrical production. We love the synergy of established acts with brand new, and newer acts. All acts are carefully considered to determine an atmosphere, narrative, and vibe to the night. A fantastical atmosphere to help audience and performer share vulnerability and immersion.

One of the primary intentions of Mother Goose's Bedtime Stories is to provide a safer creative space for those who face oppression. Our intention is NOT to create a space where nobody will be offended or uncomfortable, rather we hope that any discomfort that arises comes from challenging power and privilege, rather than the repetition of the same oppressive narratives and behaviors that pervade most spaces. (this paragraph uses words from the Not So Macho Music Collective ethos)

Produced by Uproar Performing arts in collaboration with Pangea World Theater's Lake Street Arts!

August 29, 2019, Thursday - Mn Artists Presents: CarryOn Homes at Walker Art Center

Time: 5p -9p

Location: Walker Art Center, 725 Vineland Place

Mn Artists Presents: CarryOn Homes

Mn Artists, the Walker’s platform for local artists, brings its online network live and into the museum. Connect with local artists of all disciplines, and engage with the questions driving the Minnesota arts community. The series returns for a third year, with multi-faceted events designed by guest curators Anat Shinar & Amal Rogers, CarryOn Homes, and Jonathan Herrera Soto.

How and why do we learn the way we do? CarryOn Homes invites local artists who have experienced immigration or emigration to the Walker Art Center, in order to explore questions about how institutional education systems shape us and discover possible paths for reeducation. By observing the way different cultures relate to public spaces and education, this project asks what actions can be taken to subvert assumed dynamics and reveal hidden histories. For this one-night event, the halls of the museum will be converted into an experimental classroom for artists to engage and share resources with guests.

5-9 pm: Donkeyfull Mind by Nooshin Hakim Javadi and Pedram Baldari, a tour of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden led by a live donkey - Upper Garden
5-9 pm: A Physical Study of the Education of Art #2, film by Pedram Baldari, featuring Nooshin Hakim Javadi - Main Lobby
5-9 pm: precedent, lighting installation by Valerie Oliveiro - Hennepin Lobby, Cargill Lounge, Main Lobby
5:30-6 pm: Coded Kinship, performance by Tou SaiKo Lee - Main Lobby
6:15-7:15 pm: precedent, performance by Valerie Oliveiro - Cargill Lounge
7:30-8 pm: Coded Kinship, performance by Tou SaiK Lee - Main Lobby

Carryon Homes is a group of five artists from five countries: Zoe Cinel (Italy), Preston Drum (USA), Aki Shibata (Japan), Peng Wu (China), Shunjie Yong (Malaysia), united by a drive to raise awareness of social issues through the creation of artworks. This diverse group of individual artists were brought together by their mutual association with designer Peng Wu and photographer Shunjie Yong, who were creating a documentary photography series about immigrants in Minnesota. With the introduction of behavioral artist Aki Shibata, multi-media artist Zoe Cinel and installation artist Preston Drum, the team was tasked with expanding the scope of what CarryOn Homes could be and began to develop interactive installations. The group won the Creative City Challenge in 2018 and created a multifaceted public artwork at The Commons Park in downtown Minneapolis, MN. While each member of the group maintains an active solo practice, they continue to make artworks as a group and advocate for social issues.

August 28, 2019, Wednesday - Mill City Live at Mill City Museum

Time: 6 – 8 pm

Location: Mill City Museum, 704 S 2nd Street

Mill City Live: Willie Wisely

Mill City Live returns for its 16th season with live music on Wednesday evenings in August. Set in the museum's dramatic open air Ruin Courtyard, Mill City Live features four great evenings of outdoor music by some of the best local artists and a great opportunity to visit the museum in the evening at a discount.

On Aug. 28, enjoy a performance by Willie Wisely. Wisely has a 30-plus-year career as a songwriter, performer and recording artist. Well-known to Twin Cities audiences as the leader of the Willie Wisely Trio (1989-1995), a member of William & the Conquerors, and several solo albums, Wisely recently returned to the Twin Cities after nearly two decades in Los Angeles.

With a sound that is often compared to Paul McCartney, Ben Folds, and Elliot Smith, his music is hyper-personal, and by turns quirky and unexpectedly profound.

Food and drink will be available for purchase from D'Amico. Tickets include admission to the museum from 4 to 9 pm.

Mill City Live is made possible by presenting sponsor, General Mills, and media partner, City Pages.

Time: 6:00-9:00pm

Location: Alma, 528 University Ave SE

Alma 2019 Wine Event Series Dinner No. 6

Bodkin Wines was founded by Chris Christensen, an Iowa native, in 2011.  His passion for aromatic wines and winemaking led him to create America’s first Sauvignon Blanc with bubbles.  In 2013, Andrew Chambers, an Oregon native, joined the brand and they purchased 24 tons of grapes and made 1,100 cases of their award-winning Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc.

Since that time, Bodkin Wines has produced over 15 varietals of wine, eleven of which were scored at 90 points or higher by Wine Enthusiast. They are consistently growing, year after year, but are determined to keep their presence small and unique. Bodkin Wines is still 100% owned by both Chris and Andrew, two guys living and working hard in Sonoma County.

The dinner will feature Sauvignon Blanc three ways- sparkling, still and late harvest, along with a Verdelho, and a Zinfandel paired alongside cooking inspired by the best organic late summer vegetables & fruits local farms have to offer.

Details: Wednesday, August 28th, 6:00-9:00pm. Ticket price is $200 per person and includes all service & taxes. No tipping is necessary.

*During the event there will be an opportunity to purchase Bodkin wine at discounted prices through our retail partner France  44.
