300 Clifton Candlelight Tour 2018
Don't be afraid of the dark, be afraid of what's in it.
Tour the main mansion, servants' quarters, and basements. Learn the history of Clifton Avenue and possibly meet the ghost of one of the Carpenter family's chambermaids, Gertrude.
This years tour will be accompanied by the mansions owners and a psychic medium Suzanne Krupp (www.suzannekrupp.com). They will guide you on a tour through the main mansion, grounds, and carriage house, all in the most comfortable way possible: in the dark, of course. Every tour at 300 Clifton includes loads of history on the house and neighborhood, but only in the Candlelight Tour do you get to tour the creepy parts of the house and hear the stories of the ghosts of 300 Clifton, and maybe even experience contact with the other side!
You will tour the formal areas of the house and then travel to the basement and subbasement where the paranormal investigators found the haunted souls to be the most active! 300 Clifton is an authentic Historic Home which harkens to a time when horse-drawn carriages clip-clopped through downtown, and Clifton was lined with similarly appointed residences that reflected the grace and style of wealthy urban families in the late 19th century.

🌟Marlin M Jenkins was born and raised in Detroit and is the author of the poetry chapbook CAPABLE MONSTERS, forthcoming with Bull City Press in early 2020. A graduate of University of Michigan's MFA program, his work has found homes with Indiana Review, The Rumpus, Waxwing, and Iowa Review, among others. He's worked with young writers through the Neutral Zone, Ann Arbor's teen center, and in a Detroit Public School through the InsideOut Literary Arts Project. He currently lives in St. Paul.
🌟Kenji C. Liu is author of Monsters I Have Been (Alice James Books, 2019) and Map of an Onion, national winner of the 2015 Hillary Gravendyk Poetry Prize (Inlandia Institute). His poetry is in American Poetry Review, Apogee, Gulf Coast, Poetry Northwest, and two chapbooks, Craters: A Field Guide (2017) and You Left Without Your Shoes (2009). A recipient of fellowships and residencies from Kundiman, VONA/Voices, the Djerassi Resident Artist Program, and the Community of Writers, he lives in Los Angeles.
🌟Julian Randall is a Living Queer Black poet from Chicago. A fellow of Cave Canem, CantoMundo, Callaloo, BOAAT and the Watering Hole, Julian is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize. His poetry has been published in New York Times Magazine, Ploughshares, and POETRY. His essays appear in Vibe, Black Nerd Problems and other venues. He holds an MFA in Poetry from Ole Miss. His first book, Refuse (Pitt, Fall 2018), is the winner of the 2017 Cave Canem Poetry Prize and a finalist for the NAACP Image Award in Poetry. Julian is the inaugural Milkweed Books fellow. Riding the River Longboard Art Community Event
Join us for a special evening with Juxtaposition Arts youth apprentices, who will present their process for building and designing their Mississippi River-inspired longboards.
Youth apprentices from Juxtaposition Arts built longboards and designed river-inspired art that was screen-printed on them as part of a project inspired by JXTA’s recently completed Skate-Able Art Plaza. The MWMO has partnered with Urban Boatbuilders to bring this experience to the apprentices, who are also responsible for the maintenance of the installed raingardens in the plaza.
The Juxtaposition Arts Environmental Design Lab and Textiles Lab researched the history and science of the Mississippi River, and drew inspiration from the work of Emory Douglas, Jenny Holzer, Jacob Lawrence, and the Center for Urban Pedagogy to create these layered screen prints. These unique designs examine and celebrate the Mississippi River and its complex relationship to North Minneapolis.

There’s the presidential contest, of course, in which Minnesota’s electoral votes may play an important role for the first time in forever. Several of the state’s congressional contests are likely to be highly competitive, and U.S. Senator Tina Smith will once again be on the ballot. Oh, and all 201 seats in the Minnesota Legislature will be up for election, contests that will help decide who gets to draw the lines for all of Minnesota’s legislative and congressional districts. Join MinnPost writers Peter Callaghan, Greta Kaul and Walker Orenstein to get a better understanding of where all those campaigns are and where they’re going one year out.
