Fall 2019 Student and Teaching Artist Reading
The fall student and teaching artist reading will begin with the student readers and will culminate with a reading by a teaching artist. This event is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. Writing across all genres will be accepted. There are no submissions required to be considered for a spot. Readers will be chosen by random lottery selection grouped by genre and notified by email no later than November 8, 2019.

Talk of the Stacks with Carmen Maria Machado
Join us for an evening with award-winning author and memoirist Carmen Maria Machado, in conversation with bestselling novelist Curtis Sittenfeld.
Machado is the author of the new memoir "In the Dream House," published by Graywolf Press of Minneapolis. Her debut short story collection, "Her Body and Other Parties," was a finalist for the National Book Award and the winner of the Bard Fiction Prize, the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction, the Brooklyn Public Library Literature Prize, and others.

The Pillsbury A Mill, constructed in 1881, was once the largest and most advanced flour mill in the world. Go on a guided tour of the former milling complex, including the rooftop deck and the basement waterpower facilities, and discover the story of this National Historic Landmark, now home to the A-Mill Artist Lofts.
Highlights include the largest and best-preserved waterpower system in Minneapolis, with views straight down a 50-foot drop shaft through a glass floor. Guests will discover how the building functioned during the flour milling era, see the architectural highlights of the recently completed A-Mill Artist Lofts built within the historic mill buildings, and learn about the new hydroelectric plant that helps to power the complex.
This tour is presented in partnership with A-Mill Artist Lofts.
The tour includes about 1.5 miles of moderately-paced walking indoors and outdoors with some uneven surfaces. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility.

Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market Winter Market

The MN Christmas Market is an annual pop-up holiday shopping event that showcases homegrown brands and makers, with a charitable twist. All vendors will donate 7% of sales from the event to a local charity that is fighting for kids in the Twin Cities. Nicollet Island Pavilion is a beautiful venue located in the heart of Minneapolis alongside the Mississippi River. And, if that doesn't scream Minnesota we don't know what does. Park and catch the Holiday Trolley provided by Renee's Limousines at the Graco USA lot (across from the Northeast Yacht Club) on the corner of Marshall and 8th Ave. Hop on one of the two trolleys that will run consistently throughout the market. SABR Minnesota 19th Century Baseball Interdisciplinary Symposium
The day-long Saturday symposium will be devoted to 19th-century baseball as it was played and evolved in Minnesota and the greater Midwest region. The event is a joint project of the SABR Nineteenth Century Committee, SABR's Halsey Hall Chapter, and the Hennepin County Library.
Guest speakers are expected to include John Thorn, MLB’s Official Historian; Larry Millett, longtime St. Paul Pioneer Press architecture critic and author of more than 10 books, including The Curve of the Arch and Lost Twin Cities; Stew Thornley, author of Baseball in Minnesota: A Definitive History and other books; Dan Levitt, author of Paths to Glory: How Great Baseball Teams Got That Way and other books; Mike Haupert, Professor of Economics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse; Kristin Anderson, art and architecture professor and author of an upcoming book on the history of sports facilities in the Twin Cities; Frank White, author of They Played for the Love of the Game: Untold Stories of Black Baseball in Minnesota; Brian Madigan, SABR member and associate librarian for Hennepin County Libraries; and more.
