Happening: A Response to Islamophobia
This event is free and open to the public.
On May 12, 2019, the Diyanet Mosque in New Haven, Connecticut, was found in flames. After arson was deemed the cause, a telling headline in The Washington Post asked: “Why didn’t anyone hear about it?” This act of Islamophobia isn’t an isolated incident: From the March shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand, to the recent hate crime against Somali children in Faribault, Minnesota, the Muslim community remains on edge. In response to these tragic events, the Guthrie and the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations will host an evening of reflection and support on the heels of Ramadan. Muslims and allies are invited to a time of education, discussion, food and friendship in solidarity with our Muslim neighbors.
6–9 p.m. – Activities on Level Five
– Halal food and beverages
– Information about the Diyanet Mosque and local incidents of Islamophobia
– Drop-in legal services by CAIR-MN
– Prompt questions that invite public responses
– Materials to make cards and write notes of support
7 p.m. – Teach-in and small group discussions facilitated by CAIR-MN
8:30–9 p.m. – Reflection, conversation and connection
About the Council on American-Islamic Relations
CAIR-MN is Minnesota’s only Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice and empower American Muslims. Learn more at www.cairmn.org.

FMR is leading a multi-year restoration of the natural areas on the north half of the island in partnership with the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization and the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board. The restoration plan includes removal of invasive species, enhancement of degraded forest areas, and the creation of new, diverse habitat, including two acres of native prairie and the re-creation of a pocket of maple forest historically present on the island.

My Pit Bull is Family is a national non-profit organization working on ending housing and insurance discrimination for all dog owners.
