July 20, 2019, Saturday - Celebration of Korean Music and Poetry at MacPhail

Time: 12 noon

Location: MacPhail Center for Music, 501 Second St. S.

Celebration of Korean Music and Poetry with Mikyoung Park and Soojin Lee

Mikyoung Park and Soojin Lee are both musicians from South Korea. Although their musical backgrounds are different — Mikyoung, a soprano vocalist trained in the Western tradition and Soojin, a gayageum player trained in Korean traditional music — they have a shared desire to expose local friends and colleagues to Korean culture and music. Together, Mikyoung and Soojin created a new sound using classic Korean poems and modern musical arrangements. In doing so, they wanted to make their music more accessible to Western ears not attuned to the traditional sound of Korean music. With their music, one is able to enjoy the beautiful musical fusion of East and West. In this concert, Dr. Byong (Moon) Kim, the narrator, will provide the context of the poems. This event is co-hosted by AK Connection, a non-profit run by volunteers that supports adopted Koreans. For more information, please visit www.akconnection.com.

No tickets required. Free and open to the public.
