The next ETBP Business Forum is a joint event with the Minneapolis Downtown Council on Wednesday, February 26, at US Bank Stadium, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Please note that this date is different from our regularly scheduled business forum day.  The event will take place in Club Purple.  Please enter US Bank Stadium, via the Mills Fleet Farm Ramp Skyway.

The title for the February business forum is "What You May Not Know about the Minneapolis Federal Reserve," and will feature Neel Kashkari, the President and CEO of the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank.

Kashkari took office as president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis on January 1, 2016, following a national search conducted by the Bank’s independent board of directors.

In this role, he serves on the Federal Open Market Committee, bringing the Ninth District’s perspective to monetary policy discussions in Washington, D.C. In addition to his responsibilities as a monetary policymaker, Kashkari oversees all operations of the bank, including supervision and regulation, treasury services and payments services. He has also been instrumental in establishing the Opportunity & Inclusive Growth Institute to promote greater economic equity.

Committed to increasing transparency at the Fed, Kashkari has published in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and Financial Times and is active on Twitter and Instagram. He also serves on the board of the Economic Club of Minnesota and as a member of the Aspen Economic Strategy Group.

Kashkari began his career as an aerospace engineer at TRW in Redondo Beach, Calif., where he developed technology for NASA space science missions. Following graduate school, he joined Goldman Sachs in San Francisco, where he helped technology companies raise capital and pursue strategic transactions.

From 2006 to 2009, Kashkari served in several senior positions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In 2008, he was confirmed as assistant secretary of the Treasury. In this role, he oversaw the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) during the financial crisis. Kashkari received the Alexander Hamilton Award, the Treasury Department’s highest honor for distinguished service.

Following his tenure in Washington, Kashkari returned to California in 2009 and joined PIMCO as managing director and member of the executive office. He left the firm in 2013 to explore returning to public service and, in 2014, ran for governor of California on a platform focused on economic opportunity.

Raised in Ohio, Kashkari earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Erika Lee is the author of the just-published “America for Americans: A History of Xenophobia in the United States,” recently named to best books lists by “Time,” “USA Today,” and “Ms. Magazine.” Lee is a Regents Professor of History and Asian American Studies and the Rudolph J. Vecoli Chair in Immigration History at the University of Minnesota. Tom Weber has been an award-winning journalist for two decades, most recently as host of "MPR News with Tom Weber.”

Back by popular demand – we’re excited to continue a very unique series of Sunday Suppers with our friend, chef Yia Vang of Union Kitchen.

Chef Yia, one of the Business Journal’s 2020 People to Watch , will be preparing an array of delicious food served in the Kamayan tradition at ONE Fermentary & Taproom over four dates in January and February. Kamayan dining is a communal-style Filipino feast that is traditionally served on a table covered in banana leaves and eaten with your hands (optional, but encouraged!).
Chef Yia’s spread will include Hmong sausage, tri-tip steak, whole fish, shrimp, BBQ pork, whole roasted chicken, sticky rice, noodles, roasted veggies, pickled cucumbers, fermented greens, and homemade hot sauces. Your ticket will also include one pint our house-made beers served with dinner.

Washburn A Mill Tour

Take an in-depth look at the historic Washburn A Mill complex and the award-winning Mill City Museum building.

A guide will take visitors into the building's many nooks and crannies, highlighting the lives of the men and women who worked there, how the building functioned during its peak flour milling years, and the many changes to the building over time.

This is the only opportunity for a guided tour through the entire museum building and the only chance to see some of its nonpublic spaces.

Tour highlights include:

• The dramatic story of the 1878 Washburn A Mill explosion, and the other dangers that mill workers faced on a daily basis
• "The Octopus," a large machine that directed wheat into nine storage bins
• The Humphrey Manlift, a vertical conveyor belt that carried workers from floor to floor
• The Rail Corridor where hundreds of boxcars arrived each day to unload wheat and carry away flour
• Millstone plaza originally paved with retired millstones and the location for lunchtime concerts by the Washburn-Crosby employee band in the 1920s
• Evidence of the three major fires that have damaged the building in 1878, 1928, and 1991
• The East Engine House, once home to a two-story steam engine, has been remodelled into two classrooms while preserving the original railroad car pulling machinery

The tour includes no more than 1 mile of moderately paced walking on uneven surfaces. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility.
