Tour Time: 30 Minutes before sunset until 10:00pm or Later

This Midwest Photo Safari tour begins at the Third Avenue Bridge on Historic Main St. We begin by walking parts of the St. Anthony Heritage Trail and practice early evening light photography. We will learn the principles of low light settings on your digital SLR's or the various "scene" mode settings of your digital point and shoot.

September 15, 2010, Wednesday - Author John Reimringer reads from his debut novel Vestments published by Milkweed Editions.

John Reimringer’s first novel, Vestments, is forthcoming from Milkweed Editions in fall 2010. An excerpt, “Betty Garcia,” appeared in the Milkweed anthology Fiction on a Stick: Stories by Writers from Minnesota. He has published short stories in Carolina Quarterly, Colorado Review, Louisiana Literature, and Gulf Stream Magazine and has received two Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowships, as well as a  residency at the Anderson Center for Interdiscplinary Studies. A Fargo, North Dakota native, Reimringer moved in 2001 to his father's hometown of Saint Paul, where he lives with his wife, the poet Katrina Vandenberg.

Nice Ride Minnesota launched the largest public bike sharing system in America on June 10, 2010.  They are a non-profit organization, dependent on users support. At their 3-month anniversary, they want to know how you think they're doing and where they should expand the bike share system. Join them on Wednesday, September 15, at 7:00 pm at the University of Minnesota Urban Research and Community Outreach/Engagement Center (UROC), 2001 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis. Nice Ride staff will present a brief summary of their initial 3-month performance. Antonio Rosell, Director, Community Design Group, will facilitate a discussion focusing on the potential to expand Nice Ride Minnesota to more communities.

September 12, 2010, Sunday - Mill City Farmers Market Fall Harvest Dinner

We look forward to further supporting the Mill City Farmers Market by attending the September 12 Fall Harvest Dinner (4:30-7:30pm).  The dinner will be prepared by Mill City Market Chefs, and will take place in the Mill City Museum Train Shed.

Backstage tours offer a behind-the-scenes look at how Guthrie shows are taken from script to stage. In 45 minutes, you'll visit the Guthrie's signature thrust and proscenium stages; enter the expansive scene shop where sets are built and painted, and learn how they're transported to each stage; visit the shop where costumes are expertly stitched, fabrics dyed and wigs constructed; and explore the rehearsal rooms where company members prepare for performance.

Complete with traditional German music, polka dancing and food and beer. The historic and quaint backdrop of Saint Anthony Main and the natural beauty of the Mississippi River bank make for the idyllic Oktoberfest setting. Admission and music will be FREE for all ages. I.Ds will be required to obtain a wristband for purchasing beer and wine.

Patrons will enjoy authentic German food from an array of great imported beers in our Biergartens. Join in the fun and games such as the beer barrel roll and the Hammerschlagen (nail driving).

Oktoberfest fall festival is located along Main Street S.E. on the banks of the Mississippi River adjacent to St. Anthony Main. Most of the events are held under tents and under the Central Ave Bridge, protected from the weather, so the event will be held rain or shine.

The MacPhail Center for Music (501 South 2nd Street) is introducing the "MacPhail Free Family Music Event" for those who want to explore music.

Before and after a concert, musicians will give free sample lessons to kids and adults on the instruments they played.

MacPhail Early Childhood Music staff also will be available to work with families on a music-themed art project.

The first event is set for 11am-Noon on September 11, when the center will celebrate release of MacPhail's Early Childhood Music CD, "Sing, Play, Learn." The concert will feature musicians from the CD.

Kramarczuk’s Kielbasa Festival (215 East Hennepin) will feature live music and entertainment, Kramarczuk’s street food and Nordeast and European beers. The daily $10 admission will get you a commemorative beer stein and your first beer. The admission for those under 21 and for designated drivers will be $5. Kids 5 and under will be admitted free. September 11, 2010, Saturday - Kitchen Harvests: World War I Tips for Getting the Most from Your Food

Learn clever ways to pack more nutrition into food, turn seemingly useless scraps into meals, and get more from your food dollar are featured in this fun demonstration of some of the tips when “food won the war.” Author Rae Katherine Eighmey will feature food and facts from her book "Food Will Win the War: Minnesota Cooks, Crops, and Conservation during World War I." Visitors will be able to taste the dishes as part of the demonstration, which will take place in the Museum’s Baking Lab. After each demonstration, copies of the book will available for purchase Eighmey will be available for signing.

This event is part of "Greening the Riverfront," a series of programs exploring our relationship with nature, past, present and future.

Take a walking tour of St. Anthony Falls led by costumed History Player William de la Barre, the Austrian engineer who spent half a century developing Minneapolis flour milling and waterpower. Participants will visit the Minneapolis Riverfront, the west side milling district and the Stone Arch Bridge, and hear about the many ways the falls has changed over the years. The tour will begin and end at Mill City Museum, where participants can visit the museum's gallery (included in the price of the tour).
