September 28, 2010, Tuesday - Sumi-e: Painting as a Meditative Technique

MCBA/Jerome Fellow Cecilia Ramon worked for years with a master artist learning the meditative ink painting practice known as Sumi-e painting. In this roundtable, she'll talk about the philosophy and practice of Sumi-e, which seeks to capture the spiritual essences of "the Four Gentlemen" (bamboo, orchid, chrysanthemum, and cherry blossom). The talk will be followed by a brief demonstration using traditional Sumi-e tools.

When It Don’t Come Easy is Keri Noble’s third, full-length studio release. It contains all the elements that Noble’s fans have come to expect and love: heartfelt, raspy vocals, songs that tell stories of love lost and found, as well as themes of self awareness and empowerment, accompanied by hook-heavy, sparkling piano parts. What sets this release apart from the rest, however, is the fact that Noble produced the album and is releasing it on her own label. She has finally taken complete creative control, resulting in an even more intimate, yet fully realized sound. Keri Noble will celebrate her new release at the Guthrie.

The Master Butchers Singing Club opened at the Guthrie on September 11.

What was the inspiration for the set? Was the play rewritten in rehearsals? Aren't those wigs itchy? Through this eye-opening workshop, you can learn how the Guthrie's artists and staff create a production - from early development and designs to rehearsal, costume fittings and staging of the play.

The $99 Sale is an aesthetic melee, a statement about the inherent value of art, and a fabulous fundraiser for The Soap Factory on September 24.
