October 23, 2018, Wednesday - 300 Clifton Candlelight Tour 2018

Time: 7pm (see event link below for additional times/dates)

Location: 300 Clifton Avenue

300 Clifton Candlelight Tour 2018

Don't be afraid of the dark, be afraid of what's in it.

Tour the main mansion, servants' quarters, and basements. Learn the history of Clifton Avenue and possibly meet the ghost of one of the Carpenter family's chambermaids, Gertrude.

This years tour will be accompanied by the mansions owners and a psychic medium Suzanne Krupp (www.suzannekrupp.com). They will guide you on a tour through the main mansion, grounds, and carriage house, all in the most comfortable way possible: in the dark, of course. Every tour at 300 Clifton includes loads of history on the house and neighborhood, but only in the Candlelight Tour do you get to tour the creepy parts of the house and hear the stories of the ghosts of 300 Clifton, and maybe even experience contact with the other side!

You will tour the formal areas of the house and then travel to the basement and subbasement where the paranormal investigators found the haunted souls to be the most active! 300 Clifton is an authentic Historic Home which harkens to a time when horse-drawn carriages clip-clopped through downtown, and Clifton was lined with similarly appointed residences that reflected the grace and style of wealthy urban families in the late 19th century.

October 23, 2019, Wednesday - An Evening with Rickie Lee Jones at The Cedar

Time: Doors 7:00pm / Show 7:30pm
$45 General Admission, $60 Center Section

Location: The Cedar Cultural Center, 416 Cedar Avenue S

An Evening with Rickie Lee Jones

Think of what you are about to read as a documentary film of sorts, replete with close-ups and fade-outs, starring the premiere song-stylist and songwriter of her generation, Rickie Lee Jones.

In this film we see: Rickie Lee Jones’ face, her distinctive mouth, and her thick, beyond shoulder length blonde hair as she walks down a road in a bucolic section of Tacoma, Washington, where she currently resides. It is springtime. She does not wear shoes. She carries a guitar. The sky overhead is as shiny as mica. As Jones searches for a place to sit and play in the sun, we see various aspects of her contemporary life come into frame, engaging Jones’ attention as she smiles, and listens, and reflects. We see her daughter, Charlotte Rose; Jones’ mother and siblings; various friends. All of these people come and go, passing in front of, and behind, our primary focus: Rickie Lee Jones playing her guitar and singing any number of her award winning songs: "Chuck E.’s in Love," or her interpretation of the classic, "Making Whoopee," for which she won a Grammy in 1990.

Autumn is the co-host of the podcast "How to Survive the End of the World" and she works to support revolutionary social justice movements as a worker-owner with AORTA, the Anti-Oppression Resource & Training Alliance. She lives in Minnesota.

CHAUN WEBSTER is a poet and graphic designer who draws from an interest in graffiti, collage, simultaneity, and the visuality of text. Webster utilizes these methods to investigate race—the instability of blackness and black subjectivities, geography, memory, and the body. These investigations engage the question of absence, archiving what is missing from the landscape as a number of communities watch neighborhoods, once populated with familiar presences, dissolve in the vernacular of redevelopment and its attendant colonial logic. Webster’s debut book, GENTRY!FICATION, OR: THE SCENE OF THE CRIME was published by Noemi Press in 2018 and received the Minnesota Book Award for poetry.
