October 30, 2018, Wednesday - 300 Clifton Candlelight Tour 2018

Time: 7pm (see event link below for additional times/dates)

Location: 300 Clifton Avenue

300 Clifton Candlelight Tour 2018

Don't be afraid of the dark, be afraid of what's in it.

Tour the main mansion, servants' quarters, and basements. Learn the history of Clifton Avenue and possibly meet the ghost of one of the Carpenter family's chambermaids, Gertrude.

This years tour will be accompanied by the mansions owners and a psychic medium Suzanne Krupp (www.suzannekrupp.com). They will guide you on a tour through the main mansion, grounds, and carriage house, all in the most comfortable way possible: in the dark, of course. Every tour at 300 Clifton includes loads of history on the house and neighborhood, but only in the Candlelight Tour do you get to tour the creepy parts of the house and hear the stories of the ghosts of 300 Clifton, and maybe even experience contact with the other side!

You will tour the formal areas of the house and then travel to the basement and subbasement where the paranormal investigators found the haunted souls to be the most active! 300 Clifton is an authentic Historic Home which harkens to a time when horse-drawn carriages clip-clopped through downtown, and Clifton was lined with similarly appointed residences that reflected the grace and style of wealthy urban families in the late 19th century.

October 29, 2019, Tuesday - 'Riding the River' Longboard Art Community Event at MWMO

Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Location: Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, 2522 Marshall Street Northeast

Riding the River Longboard Art Community Event

Join us for a special evening with Juxtaposition Arts youth apprentices, who will present their process for building and designing their Mississippi River-inspired longboards.

Youth apprentices from Juxtaposition Arts built longboards and designed river-inspired art that was screen-printed on them as part of a project inspired by JXTA’s recently completed Skate-Able Art Plaza. The MWMO has partnered with Urban Boatbuilders to bring this experience to the apprentices, who are also responsible for the maintenance of the installed raingardens in the plaza.

The Juxtaposition Arts Environmental Design Lab and Textiles Lab researched the history and science of the Mississippi River, and drew inspiration from the work of Emory Douglas, Jenny Holzer, Jacob Lawrence, and the Center for Urban Pedagogy to create these layered screen prints. These unique designs examine and celebrate the Mississippi River and its complex relationship to North Minneapolis.

Time: 5:30 – 7 pm

Location: Elsie’s, 729 Marshall St. NE

MinnPost Social – One Year Out: A Way Too Early Look at the 2020 Campaign

As you may have heard, there’s a pretty big election happening in 2020. There’s the presidential contest, of course, in which Minnesota’s electoral votes may play an important role for the first time in forever. But that’s hardly the only reason why election 2020 is going to be a very big deal. Several of the state’s congressional contests are likely to be highly competitive, and U.S. Senator Tina Smith will once again be on the ballot. Oh, and all 201 seats in the Minnesota Legislature will be up for election, contests that will help decide who gets to draw the lines for all of Minnesota’s legislative and congressional districts. Join MinnPost writers Peter Callaghan, Greta Kaul and Walker Orenstein to get a better understanding of where all those campaigns are and where they’re going one year out. This lively Q&A session is part of the MinnPost Social event series, presented by RBC Wealth Management and Great River Energy, in which MinnPost journalists share insights with audience members in a casual atmosphere that includes a cash bar and light appetizers. Space is limited, and organizers anticipate selling out.

October 27, 2019, Sunday - The Mill Yard Opening Reception at Stonebridge Lofts

Opening Reception
Sunday, October 27  5:00 - 7:00PM
Stonebridge Lofts, 1120 South 2nd Street

The new show runs from October 27 – February 5, 2020

Join us at The Mill Yard opening reception for an Autumn-inspired cocktail, wine, beverages, snacks and beautiful art.  Local chef Jessi Peine’s popular food truck, Peeps Hot Box, will be out front selling world street foods inspired by seasonal ingredients.

The Mill Yard at Stonebridge Lofts

The Mill City. Residents celebrate our area’s industrial heritage of the mighty Mississippi River and the mills. Today, what we see are the most recognizable Minneapolis landmarks. However, this is only part of the story. Rail lines were key to Minneapolis’ growth, and were particularly integral to the Mill District, bringing in wheat and timber and shipping out flour and lumber. We also honor the history of the mills, the reason for the rail yard’s existence. The Mill Yard aims to be both a gathering place for art and artists and a conduit by which art can be shared with and disseminated into the wider community. Contact us at: TheMillYard.Stonebridge@gmail.com

Artists featured at the Autumn show:

Mary Meuwissen

Inspired by ordinary experiences; recurring shapes such as houses, multiple dwellings, stairways or ladders often appear in Mary’s finished paintings. These shapes and marks evoke thoughts of safety, comfort and a feeling of being grounded. She uses a color palette of bold, unexpected colors to define a sense of energy, joy and surprise. Each finished abstract painting is a culmination of ideas which are defined by marks and playful discovery. Mary believes that each painting tells a story and her goal is that the viewer may find their own story while they look and delve into the nuances of each painting.

Networking in the Middle of Orange

Greg Preslicka

Greg is primarily a plein air painter, which is painting in the field directly from life. His main career has been the commercial side of art, specifically Design & Illustration. He has also spent the last 10 years painting murals in schools, libraries and other public spaces. For Greg, plein air and studio painting offers a much needed break from the client driven work he is often doing for his job. He paints for the love of putting brush to canvas and the challenge of capturing a moment in time. He primarily paints landscapes because he enjoys getting lost in the solitude of nature while painting a scene.

Lower Falls TETT

Susan Wagner

Susan has roots in Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida and Minnesota. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, she moved to NYC for 13 years where she had a successful career in film while studying painting at various ateliers. After returning to Minneapolis, she joined the artist community of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District where she maintains a studio in the Casket Arts Building. Traveling and hiking is essential to Ms. Wagner’s work, taking pictures and making sketches to take back to the studio. Landscapes and structures hold stories – the countryside, rivers and bodies of water, ancient architecture – geometric forms and nature are her guideposts.

FunReduxs

Peter Wong

After four decades as a professional commercial photographer, Peter has in recent years entered the worlds of fine-art and travel photography, working as shooter, teacher and guide. Melding these genres gives Peter the opportunity not only to capture new experiences but also to share his knowledge and advance the skills of other enthusiasts. The results go far beyond travel postcards with images that show real connections with the places visited, and a deep understanding of the hearts of other people.
