September 27, 2019, Friday - I AM Minneapolis!

Time: 6 PM – 10 PM

Location: 729 N Washington Avenue, Suite 600

I AM Minneapolis!

A city isn't just the land it inhabits. Or the water that flows through it. Or the buildings that tower over it. It's the people.

I AM Minneapolis is back! Join us on September 27th at WeWork in North Loop for an energy-filled evening including music, community building, photo-ops, food, drinks, and a fashion show with looks modeled by local "movers and shakers" in the community.

This year I AM Minneapolis! is a part of Fashion Week MN and for the first time ever 100% of the ticket proceeds will benefit Still Kickin, a nonprofit organization founded by Nora McInerny that helps awesome people going through awful things. Each month, Still Kickin provides financial support to a different person or family — a Still Kickin Hero.

September 27, 2019, Friday - waking up at The Lab (2 nights)

Time: 8 pm both nights

Location: The Lab Theater, 700 First Street N

Ricci Milan and Rhythm Street Movement present: waking up

What happens when a dream is over? Ricci Milan and Rhythm Street Movement have created a new original work about the highs and lows that come with turning the page in the book of life. The original soundtrack features David Feily on a bluegrass jam, Faye Lewis on a Ballad, Dan Ristrom’s voice vibe and funky base guitar throughout, and Reed Grimm and Solomon Witherspoon bringing enough soul and energy to get even the squarest Minnesotans to clap on the 2 and 4. The original choreography ranges from contemporary tap to jazz tap to even Irish step as this show takes you on an inspiring journey through the eyes of “the dreamer” as he is WAKING UP. It’s honest, funny, heartfelt and poetic on every level. This show connects the dance to the song and the message to lyrics in a soulful, infectious and effortless expression of empowerment and hope.

September 25, 2019, Wednesday - MSP Film Society presents Anthropocene: The Human Epoch at St. Anthony Main Theatre

Time: 7 PM – 10 PM

Location: St. Anthony Main Theatre, 115 SE Main Street

Anthropocene: The Human Epoch

SCREENING AS PART OF A ONE NIGHT NATIONWIDE EVENT IN LIMITED THEATERS!

Kino Lorber, in partnership with Kanopy, is proud to be bringing Anthropocene: The Human Epoch to theaters across the U.S. for a nationwide screening event on September 25, coinciding with the U.N. Climate Action Summit.

Multiple-award winning filmmaking team Jennifer Baichwal, Nicholas de Pencier, and Edward Burtynsky present an unforgettable exploration of humanity's profound and irreversible changes to the Earth. Third in a trilogy that includes Manufactured Landscapes (2006) and Watermark (2013), Anthropocene: The Human Epoch makes a compelling case that humans now affect the Earth's systems more than any other natural force. Covering a wide scope of industries and environments, viewers are presented with gargantuan efforts in China to hold back the sea, immense machines the size of skyscrapers in Germany that peel back the Earth's surface in search of the precious resources beneath, hauntingly beautiful mines, quarries, and devastated natural landscapes. As mesmerizing as it is confrontational, Anthropocene puts a focus on the planet itself, and the sobering reality that it is the only one we have and its resources are not unlimited.

September 23, 2019, Monday - Inspired Conversations: Lindsey Vonn at State Theatre

Time: 7:30 pm

Location: State Theatre, 805 Hennepin Avenue

Inspired Conversations: Lindsey Vonn

Please join us for a lively conversation with Lindsey Vonn, considered history’s greatest female alpine skier and creator of the Lindsey Vonn Foundation. Vonn takes the stage with moderator Gail Rosenblum, editor of the Star Tribune’s “Inspired” section, for the first in our new speaker series, Inspired Conversations, focused on goodness, hope and solutions, presented in partnership between Hennepin Theatre Trust and Star Tribune.

Vonn, who grew up in the Twin Cities, began skiing at the age of two and developed into one of the world’s greatest skiers. Over the course of her career, she has captured a world-record 82 World Cup wins en route to 20 FIS Alpine World Cup titles, including four overall crystal globes and two World Championship titles. In 2016, Vonn broke the all-time downhill record (43 wins), claiming the season’s downhill title outright, on top of achieving the sport’s Super-G record (28 wins).

Six weeks after she turned 20, Vonn produced her first World Cup victory in Lake Louise, Alberta and in 2010, became the only American woman to capture downhill gold at the Olympics. After rehabilitating two back-to-back knee injuries, she returned to competition in December 2014 to later break Annemarie Moser-Proell’s 35-year-old record of 62 World Cup victories.

In 2015, Vonn launched the Lindsey Vonn Foundation (LVF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young girls to grow as athletes and individuals through opportunities and experiences that build self-esteem and create positive self-image.

People  magazine named Vonn and LVF to its 25 “Women Changing the World” list in 2016. Vonn’s book, Strong is the New Beautiful  (2016) was recently added to the New York Times’  Bestsellers List and a documentary chronicling her extraordinary recovery, The Climb, aired on NBC in 2015. Vonn will release her memoir, Rise: My Story, in early 2020.
