December 12, 2018, Wednesday - Morning Forum: Your Favorite Building Invitational at Mill City Museum

Time: 8a - 9a

Location: Mill City Museum, 704 S 2nd Street

Morning Forum: Your Favorite Building Invitational

Ever wanted to get involved in one of our Morning Forums? Here's your chance!

This month we're hosting our annual invitational where you get to lead. Our question: What's your favorite historic spot in Minneapolis?

When you’re showing off the city, what do you show? A particular building? A favorite street? It doesn’t have to be officially historic, just something that embodies this fine city’s culture/history/spirit/general excellence.

Feel free to post your suggestion in the comments of our Facebook Event or email them to social@preserveminneapolis.org by December 5th!

Please include the name/location of your favorite spot, why it matters to you, and a photo if at all possible. You'll have the chance to get up and speak at the Morning Forum to tell the audience in your own words all about your selection. If you can't make it we're happy to do this on your behalf.

Thank you to all the community members working together to help develop the Mississippi Gorge Regional Park Master Plan, a project that will create a new long-term plan for all riverfront parkland in Minneapolis between Bridge 9 (Dinkytown Greenway bridge) and Minnehaha Regional Park.

The final Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting is scheduled Monday, Dec. 10, 5:30-8:30 pm at Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board headquarters, 2117 West River Road. Anyone interested in Mississippi Gorge Regional Park is welcome to attend.

MPRB staff is aware of community concern regarding the potential of mountain biking in the gorge. This concern will be addressed at the meeting, when natural surface trails and draft frameworks are discussed. Please note that all frameworks currently reflect and support the current use of natural surface trails within the Mississippi Gorge Regional Park, which are pedestrian-only trails.

  • Bohemian Flats
  • East River Flats
  • Franklin Flats
  • Longfellow Beach/Minneapolis Boathouse Area
  • Oak Savanna next to 36th St.
  • Riverside Park and Annie Young Meadow

The concepts incorporate feedback from the CAC, the Project Advisory Committee, public listening sessions, open house events and emails from interested community members. MPRB staff are eager to receive comments from the public on these park area concepts, along with ideas for suggested changes. Time: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Who wants to set a Guinness World Record for most sets of multiples pictured with Santa?!? We will start the event off with our group picture, then Santa will bring his guitar and a few books to put on a small show for the children. After you and your family can get an individual picture with Santa! He is bringing a wonderful Christmas-y backdrop for this. Santa is waving his usual strict event fee and asking for cash donations from the families that can spare it. So please consider bringing $5 along with you to help pay for his time. He knows the holidays are a stressful, expensive time and he doesn't want pictures with Santa to be a burden. But he is so talented and squeezing us into his busy schedule so I want to make sure he is compensated appropriately!

The location will be at the Periscope office in Minneapolis. Elizabeth Ross (MoM) has graciously donated the space for this event. Abigail Niemann Photography (MoM) and Traci Palmer Photography (MoM) will be donating their time to Photograph this event! In return we ask for non-perishable food items or brand new winter gear!
