Gretchen Camp, on behalf of Clark Street Holdings, LLC has submitted a Certificate of Appropriateness application for revisions to a previously approved plan for a new 28-story mixed use project at  200 Central Ave SE and 113 2nd St SE in the St. Anthony Falls Historic District.

The Heritage Preservation Commission will meet on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at 4:30 p.m., in Room 317 City Hall, 350 S 5th St, Minneapolis, MN. Interested parties are invited to at tend and be heard.

Planning Department staff will issue a recommendation to the Heritage Preservation Commission. After hearing from the public, the Heritage Preservation Commission will make a determination based on required legal findings of fact. Please visit http://www.minneapolismn.gov/meetings/hpc/index.htm for the agenda with staff reports (web page will be updated by the end of the day Monday prior to the meeting date).

Strike! The Workers' Rights Tour

Take a guided tour of the historic Washburn A Mill to discover the dramatic story of work and labor in Minneapolis from the 19th-century to today. Hear how activists improved the lives of workers in the mills and related industries and how management responded by creating anti-union policies and groups like Citizens' Alliance.

Explore how labor was divided across race, class, and gender lines and the role of organized labor today. Learn about the 1903 and 1917 flour milling strikes, the Truckers Strike of 1934, and the life and career of Nellie Stone Johnson, a union organizer and the first African American elected to citywide office in Minneapolis.

This tour includes about 1 mile of moderately paced walking on uneven surfaces. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility.

Learn to make your own inks from plants! Explore using readily available (or foraged) plants to make vibrant natural inks to use in projects. Possibilities include walnuts for a beautiful brown, grape vine for a dark black, or spices and plants to make a variety of colors. Learn what goes into making natural ink and how to modify it for various uses. Participants will go home with several newly made inks.
