Nodin Press presents Jill Breckenridge and Carol Rucks

Join us as Nodin poets, Jill Breckenridge (The Sometimes Poems) and Carol Rucks (Evidence of Rain), launch new collections.
 
Jill Breckenridge grew up in the West, but now lives and writes in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She and playwright John Fenn raised a combined family of five children together. Jill works as an editor, focusing on both writing product and process. A former Director of The Loft Literary Center, she originated The Mentor Series, a program connecting national and local writers. Jill won The Bluestem Award, judged by William Stafford, for her book of poems, How To Be Lucky.  Her sequence of poetry and prose about the Civil War, Civil Blood, was published by Milkweed Editions.The book was nominated for the American Library Association’s Notable Books of 1986. Jill’s honors include a Bush Foundation Fellowship, two Minnesota State Arts Board grants, and Loft-McKnight Awards in both poetry and prose.
 
 Her poems have appeared in many publications, and are anthologized in Minnesota Writes: Poetry; 25 Minnesota Poets; Woman Poet: Midwest; Looking for Home: Women Writing about Exile; Family Reunion: Poems about Parenting Grown Children; To Sing Along The Way: Minnesota Women Poets from Pre-Territorial Days to the Present; and Where One Voice Ends Another Begins: 150 Years of Minnesota Poetry.
 
Jill holds an MFA in Creative Writing and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, with an emphasis on creativity.  Her web site is http://www.jillbreckenridge.com/.

Carol Rucks grew up in a large family in Central Wisconsin. She was educated at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, where she studied Literature and Creative Writing with David Steingass, and Dave Engel. She has traveled widely in Eastern and Western Europe and in Latin America. She studied poetry with Rosann Lloyd in Guatemala, as part of Art Workshops in Guatemala. She has worked mainly in libraries, including the Golda Meir Library in Milwaukee, and also the Art/Music/Literature Department of the Minneapolis Central Library, which later became part of the Hennepin County Library system. Her poems have appeared in Abraxas, Energy Review, Colere, West Branch, Dust and Fire, and elsewhere. She is actively involved with the Loft Literary Center and its classes and readings, and was a finalist in the 2012 Loft Mentor Series. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband, Mark McHugh.
