September 24, 2016, Saturday - Dinner Detective at Courtyard Minneapolis Downtown

Time: Doors open at 6:00pm

Location: Courtyard Minneapolis Downtown, 1500 Washington Avenue S

Dinner Detective Minneapolis

The Dinner Detective is America’s LARGEST, award-winning interactive comedic murder mystery dinner show! Our high-energy, modern-day whodunit is combined with a full four-course meal.

Our immensely popular murder mystery shows are set in the present day. Unlike other murder mystery dinner shows (or just dinner shows in general), with The Dinner Detective, you and your guests will not find themselves staring at cheesy costumes, there will be no recited campy dialogue and certainly no hokey song and dance. Our performers are dressed just like everyone else, leaving all of the guests to suspect who is a part of the show and who is not! All scripts are based on actual cold cases and are created in house. From the get go, the guests are seated with the performers and most likely will not realize it! Our Detectives enter the room, proceed to interrogate guests, find clues and start the investigation. This allows our guests to socialize with and interrogate each other, while deciphering real life-based clues. At the end of the night, prizes are awarded to the Top Sleuth who solves the crime!

Theatre Forever presents: The Venetian Twins

September 23 -- October 16

Written in the mid 1700s, Carlo Goldoni's timeless comedy tells the story of two estranged twins, Zanetto and Tonino, who arrive in town, both lovelorn, and on the same day, to win two separate hands in marriage. Staged in Theatre Forever's vibrant, playful and irreverent style and drawing heavily from Italian Commedia dell'arte, this production, packed with more mistaken identities than you can shake a wet fish at, boat-loads of exquisite physical comedy and rapid-fire verbal play, promises to be an unforgettably hilarious evening of mayhem and stupidity.

Admission: $24, student (with ID): $18, ARTShare members free and Tuesday – Pay What You Can.

September 22, 2016, Thursday - Minneapolis' first World Car Free Day

Here’s a challenge to go  “Car Free” or “Car-lite” (carpooling) for an entire day on Thursday, September 22nd. Minneapolis will be joining dozens of cities across the globe in celebration of World Car Free Day. It’s a day to explore alternatives to single occupancy vehicles, and our city has many modes to offer. Of course, ZAPPING your ride on September 22nd is highly encouraged!

Conceptualized in Toledo, Spain in 1994, Car Free Day was launched the following year in Reykjavík (Iceland), Bath (United Kingdom) and La Rochelle (France). Under the informal guidance of the  World Car Free Days Consortium , the celebrations have been expanding throughout America, Europe, Australia and Asia ever since. Washington D.C. hosts the largest celebration in the United States with more and more communities participating each year. According to The Washington Post, the event “promotes improvement of mass transit, cycling and walking, and the development of communities where jobs are closer to home and where shopping is within walking distance”

Keep the car parked in the garage on Thursday, September 22nd.  Move Minneapolis is working with our transportation partners to promote and educate about alternative transportation modes. How to commute by bus or train in a fast, efficient and sustainable manner. What bike routes and protected lanes go into downtown, and where to safely lock up your bike once you’ve arrived. Try carpooling and park for fee that day. Try car-sharing or bike-sharing – get all the benefits without having to own one.

Move Minneapolis is planning a number of Car Free Day events leading up to and including Thursday, September 22nd. Pledge to try a new transportation mode and be entered in a drawing for valuable prizes, including a new Bianchi Cortina bike courtesy of One On One Bike Studio. Stay tuned for details on Minneapolis’ first annual Car Free Day on September 22nd, 2016.

September 22, 2016, Thursday - State of the River Report Presentation at Science Museum of Minnesota

Time:  7:00pm - 8:30pm

Location: Science Museum of Minnesota, 120 W Kellogg, St. Paul

State of the River Report 2.0 Launch + Presentation

How is the health of the Mississippi River? Can I safely swim in it? Is water pollution improving? Can I eat the fish I catch? What can we do about Asian carp? Do I need to be concerned about bacteria in the river? How are bald eagles faring?

At Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) we hear questions like these all the time. That's why we've partnered with the National Park Service's Mississippi National River & Recreation Area unit (MNRRA) to update "State of the River Report," first released in 2012, for a current look at the river.

Join us on this special evening at the Science Museum of Minnesota as we launch and present this newly updated report. The State of the River Report will provide a clear, concise snapshot of the health of the Mississippi River. Based upon a broad range of water quality and aquatic ecosystem data, the report zooms in on the status and trends of 12 key indicators of river health highlighting the swimming, fishing, aquatic life and emerging contamination issues facing the river as well as priority solutions for each.

We do expect this event to reach capacity, so please claim your seat now via Eventbrite. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with additional details and directions.
