A collective of local dance companies present Gorge, the void where dance meets rock. Gorge is a four-part performance series where no show is ever dull. DaNCEBUMS opens each evening with their riotous approach to dance in Press Kit. Next, April Sellers Dance Collective recreates their work The Animal Corridor with a new cast member. Alternating performances with ASDC, Samantha Johns and Nona Invie create an ode. Finally, Detroit-based Kristi Faulkner Dance closes out every night (and their tour to Minneapolis via the GRUNT network) with Four Letter Word.

ABOUT THE SAINT PAUL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Renowned for its artistic excellence, remarkable versatility of musical styles and adventurous programming, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra is widely regarded as one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world. Entering its 59th season in 2017-18, the SPCO has recently undergone transformational change with the opening of its new home, the Ordway Concert Hall, the addition of a new generation of players, and significant changes in its artistic vision. The SPCO is primarily an unconducted ensemble that performs a broad range of repertoire from Baroque to new music and works in close collaboration with a diverse series of artistic partners, including British Baroque specialist Jonathan Cohen, American pianist Jeremy Denk, Swedish clarinetist Martin Fröst, Moldovan violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto. Now in its eleventh year, the Haunted Basement is an annual horror experience which marries artist-driven installations with immersive theater performance in an environment which is at turns surreal and psychologically unsettling.
This year’s run will begin on Friday, September 29 and run through Halloween; with performances on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays of each week, and a final show on Tuesday, October 31 (of course). All shows begin at 6:30 p.m., with performances running later into the night on Fridays, Saturdays and Halloween.
Tickets for the Haunted Basement are $25 for Thursdays and Sundays, and $27 for Fridays, Saturdays, and Halloween. The Haunted Basement is an 18+ with I.D. event.

Aftermath: A Newtown Screening and Community Conversation offers an opportunity for reflection and conversation about the impact of gun violence on public health. The event features a screening of the documentary Newtown followed by a panel discussion with the film’s director, Kim Snyder, as well as public health experts, school staff and clergy from the Twin Cities community.
This free event is the first “Happening” of the Guthrie’s 2017-2018 Season. “Happenings” are periodic and timely events that may include conversations, town hall meetings, salons, dance parties, performances and readings that are responsive to current events and are immediately relevant to the world around us. These “happening” events are part of the Guthrie’s Level Nine Series, conceptualized by Haj and supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, emphasizing the creation of a theater that wrestles with urgent questions and inspires dynamic dialogue with its audience, expands the diversity of voices, visions and styles on its stages and engages community members currently underserved by its work.

October 14, 2017, Saturday - Mill Ruins Park Volunteer Habitat Restoration with the National Park Service
Looking for something fun and rewarding to do on a Saturday morning? Consider joining the National Park Service (NPS) volunteer crew for habitat restoration activities in Mill Ruins Park.
Typical NPS Mill Ruins volunteer activities include invasive species removal, occasional planting, and caring for native species that have been planted by other volunteers.
This drop-in volunteer event at Mill Ruins Park at 9am-12pm Noon.
Gloves, tools, and instruction will be provided. Volunteers bring a water bottle, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, and clothes that can get dirty. Chat with a ranger or NPS volunteer crew leader, play in the dirt, and feel good knowing that your efforts are helping to improve the national park in our backyard!
