Tour the Pillsbury A Mill

Discover the story of the National Historic Landmark Pillsbury A Mill, the largest flour mill in the world for many years, which recently reopened as the A-Mill Artist Lofts. A Mill City Museum guide will lead a tour of the former milling complex, including the rooftop deck (weather permitting) and the basement waterpower facilities.

Highlights include the largest and best-preserved waterpower system in Minneapolis, with views straight down a 50-foot drop shaft through a glass floor. Guests will discover how the building functioned during the flour milling era; see the architectural highlights of the recently completed A-Mill Artist Lofts built within the historic mill buildings; and learn about the new hydroelectric plant that helps to power the complex.

This tour is presented in partnership with A-Mill Artist Lofts and includes about 1.5 miles of moderately-paced walking indoors and outdoors with some uneven surfaces. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility.

Tours begin at the gray door on 3rd Avenue SE at Main Street (around the corner from the main entrance at 315 Main Street SE).

International Women's Day was first established in honor of the 1908 garment workers' strike in New York, where women protested against working conditions. Now, 111 years later, you can still support women's economic independence in the spirit of International Women's Day.

It is positioned to be the premier Puppy and Handler contest within the North Star Kennel Club’s home region of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Manitoba, and Ontario.

We’re celebrating International Women’s Day the only way we know how: releasing a ground-breaking beer to benefit two change-making causes.

On Friday, March 8th we’ll be releasing our first ZERO IBU hazy IPA that we’re calling “Has that line ever worked for you before?!” It was proudly designed, brewed, and named by the women of Modist, and we’ve proudly decided to donate $1 of each pint sold to Pink Boots Society to support their effort to support women in the beer industry, AND $1 of each pint sold will be donated to And Now She Rises, a local non-profit that provides resources to domestic abuse shelters.

We’ll be celebrating the release beginning at 6 PM with some badass lady DJs followed by a very special performance from the one and only Ashley DuBose. The event will also kick off a BOOK DRIVE! Beginning on International Women’s Day and continuing through the month of March, Modist will be collecting donations of any and all books that And Now She Rises will give directly to the libraries of local women’s shelters.

You are invited to the inaugural broadcast of Radio Rhizome: a radio station dedicated to immigrants’ rights, created by Nooshin Hakim and Pedram Baldari.

Developed in collaboration with the U of M Law School’s James H. Binger Center for New Americans, Javadi and Baldari will generate a broadcast program of interviews, storytelling, and sound performances. The event will be co-presented with Deepinder Mayell, the executive director of the Center for New Americans and director of the Center’s Education and Outreach Program of the Law School. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will host a public hearing on the East of the River Park Master Plan on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, 6:30 pm in the Board Room at Mary Merrill MPRB Headquarters, 2117 West River Road. Anyone who wishes to speak at the public hearing may sign up at MPRB Headquarters before the hearing begins or call ahead at 612-230-6400.

The East of the River Park Master Plan contains long-term park designs for all Minneapolis neighborhood park properties east of the Mississippi River. It also plans for new parks, like Towerside Park, and new park connections, like the Grand Rounds Missing Link.

The East of the River Park Master Plan was created through more than a year of meetings, events, conversations, feedback, design and adjustment. The latest set of designs was open for a 45-day public comment period between Nov. 13, 2018 and Dec. 28, 2018.

The final park design concepts will be used to build improvements funded by the 20-Year Neighborhood Park Plan, which dedicates $11 million annually over 20 years (2017-2036) to revitalize Minneapolis neighborhood parks.
