July 24, 2013, Wednesday - Happy Hour With a Preservationist: Towers Condominiums

Time: 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Location: The Towers Condominiums, 15 South First Street

Preserve Minneapolis

Cost: This event is free! But ... YOU MUST RESERVE A SPOT ON EVENTBRITE.

July’s Happy Hour with a Preservationist will revisit the courtyard at the Towers Condominiums, 15 South First Street. This original mid-twentieth century courtyard was designed by Sasaki, Walker and Associates. In 2004, it was lovingly rehabilitated by local firm, Close Landscape Architecture, as part of a project to repair the parking garage underneath the garden.

Join us at 5:30 on Wednesday, July 24 for an exclusive opportunity to experience this private Modern landscape. Landscape architect, Jean Garbarini, who worked on the rehabilitation, will present. The event is free but group size is going to be limited to the first 25 people to sign up on Eventbrite. We will have a waiting list in case of cancellations.

Happy Hour participants can enter from the vestibule of the main Towers building on First Street between Hennepin and Marquette Avenues. On-street metered parking along First Street is not enforced after 6pm.

You can also join us for our historic walking and biking tours. A tour of the Warehouse District will begin at 7pm after our Happy Hour.

Time: 7:00pm – 8:30pm

Location: Edina Realty Office at 226 North Washington Avenue

Preserve Minneapolis

The North Loop Warehouse District was the city’s warehouse and wholesaling district during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, growing when Minneapolis became a major distribution center for the upper Midwest. The area has retained its sense of time and place, with original bridges still in place, streets paved with bricks, and trains passing through daily on the track beds around which the area first developed. The tour will explore the overall history of the district, and individual buildings and the architects who designed them.

This tour will walk less than one mile.
