January 24, 2013, Thursday - Story City: My First Time at The Loft

Tme: 7:00pm

Location: The Loft, Performance Hall, 1011 Washington Avenue South

Story City, a migrating, live storytelling event in Minneapolis, MN, presents its January installment, “My First Time.” What springs to mind with the phrase “My First Time”? What are your most vivid memories of first-time realizations, plunges, or indiscretions? In a selection of short stories told by Twin City locals, Story City invites you to find out.

To participate, send a summary of your "First Time" story to storycitymn@gmail.com by January 16th. Stories must be true, be up to 7 minutes long and told... unscripted.

About Story City:

Story City promotes the oral tradition, self-expression and stories of the cities we love through live memoir. Story City is a migrating, live storytelling event in the Twin Cities. Each event has a different theme, and storytellers have up to 7 minutes to recount their tale live on stage without the aid of notes. Story City events are held in a different space each time, so no two are alike. Started in 2012 by Jemma Brown and Lara Avery, the goal of Story City is to provide a platform for artists, performers, writers and everyone in between to come together once a month and share stories with members of their Twin Cities community. We're always on the lookout for new voices and venues! To participate or collaborate, or for the latest on what we're doing and where we'll be, email us at storycitymn@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter: @StoryCityMN.

Music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse

‘Murder, Greed, Corruption, Exploitation, Adultery, Treachery...all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts’ ... so begins Chicago, one of the most phenomenal musicals of our times. Paint the town red with merry murderesses Roxie Hart, Velma Kelly, their hotshot lawyer, Billy Flynn, and the iconic Fosse choreography.Chicago has everything that makes Broadway great: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz; one show-stopping –song after another; the most astonishing dancing you’ve ever seen; and all the topicality of our celebrity-seeking times. It also provides some of the most sensational roles in all musical theatre. Be razzled and dazzled by Chicago: a true Broadway classic.

Matt Sciple, a 2008 City Pages artist of the year, has directed, performed in or written over 75 plays for theaters across Minnesota, including Gremlin Theatre’s Orson’s Shadow, the 2008 Ivey Award winner for best ensemble.
