August 8, 2016, Monday - In Conversation: Joseph Haj and Marcela Lorca at the Guthrie

Time: 7:30pm

Location:  Guthrie Theater, Wurtele Thrust Stage, 818 Second Street South

In Conversation: Joseph Haj and Marcela Lorca

At first glance South Pacific and Disgraced seemingly have little in common other than being awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize nearly 70 years apart. But under the surface, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s sweeping musical and Ayad Akhtar’s searing drama each challenge our assumptions about race, otherness and what it means to be an American. Join Artistic Director and South Pacific director Joseph Haj andDisgraced director Marcela Lorca for an insightful look into the selection of these revolutionary plays for the Guthrie’s current season, their striking similarities (and differences) and the thematic ties that make them relevant today. This thought-provoking discussion will be moderated by Associate Artistic Director Jeffrey Meanza. The In Conversation series invites you to hear from artists and cultural leaders on topics that are tied to current or upcoming work on the Guthrie’s stages. Each event includes a Q&A session with the audience. Tickets are free, but reservations required.
