August 15, 2016, Monday - Movie Night at Gold Medal Park: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Time: Screening begins at dusk. In case of rain or high winds, screenings will be rescheduled or cancelled.

Location: Gold Medal Park

The Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul announces the 2016 lineup of their outdoor Movies in the Park series. Now in its second year, the popular series will feature family-oriented classic and contemporary narrative and documentary films showing for free at Gold Medal Park.

Screenings are presented by the Film Society on behalf of the Gold Medal Park Conservancy.

Monday, August 15 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Join us August 15 at dusk for our second summer 2016 presentation at Gold Medal Park, featuring a screening of the third outing by acclaimed director Steven Spielberg's much-loved adventurer Indiana Jones.

Relive the fun and excitement of keeping up with the Joneses in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Beginning with a prologue that reveals a young Indiana Jones (River Phoenix) in one of his first adventures, this thrilling screen epic then kicks into its titular tale as an adult Indy (Harrison Ford) embarks on a perilous quest for his cantankerous father, Professor Henry Jones, Sr. (Sean Connery). The Nazis are on the trail of the Holy Grail, and have kidnapped Indy's father, the foremost authority on the Cup of Christ. Follow Indy as he inches through the rat-filled catacombs of Venice, battles Nazi flying aces in a thrilling biplane dogfight, and braves the thunderous firepower of an unstoppable tank. And behold the Holy Grail's power to give and take life, as Indy and his father race against time in this timeless classic.

Note: Due to the limited viewing area and steep inclines on the hill, no chairs will be permitted at the screening. Also, in accordance with Minneapolis city ordinance, no alcohol will be allowed at all Gold Medal Park screenings. In the case of rain or extreme wind (gusts of 20 mph or more), this screening will be cancelled and notification will be posted on The Film Society's Facebook and Twitter pages.

August 14 , 2016, Sunday - Historic East Hennepin Walking Tour with Preserve Minneapolis

Time: 10:00am

Location: Meet at NE corner of University Ave and 14 th Ave SE

Historic East Hennepin Walking Tour

Event Description

The bustling commercial district surrounding East Hennepin Avenue has hosted many names throughout the years, but everyone knows its unforgettable landmarks . . . Surdyk's, Kramarczuk's, Historic Main Street, and Lourdes Church.

Located across the Hennepin Bridge from Downtown, this neighborhood was originally established in 1855 as the Town of St. Anthony Falls and later merged with The City of Minneapolis in 1872. Its proximity to the Mississippi River, Downtown, the University, and Northeast Minneapolis have made it an influential hub for transit, industry, and commerce. The last decade has brought dramatic change and the area around East Hennepin is now considered one of the trendiest and most exciting places in Minneapolis to eat, shop, and live. Fortunately, the area has managed to maintain its old-world flavor to this day.

Join us for a “behind-the-scenes” history of the busy streets, unique businesses, and colorful people that have shaped this popular walking neighborhood.   Hear amazing stories told from the perspective of individuals who have lived and worked here, through good times and bad. Come away with perspectives on what life and work here might have actually felt like throughout this neighborhood’s most defining eras.

This tour will walk approximately 1.5 miles. The tour guides are Scott Parkin and Michael Rainville.

This tour walks half a mile, and the tour guide is Cara Letofsky.
