July 20, 2014, Sunday - Bluff Street Extension Ceremony and Ride

Bluff Street extension of the Dinkytown Greenway

On Sunday, July 20, 1-2 PM, we celebrate the opening of the Bluff Street tunnel, a new extension of the Dinkytown Greenway! The tunnel connects cyclists directly from Bridge 9 into downtown Mpls, the Mississippi River bike trails & bike lanes on 2nd Street.

Join Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges and City Council Members Frey and Gordon for a celebration of the Bluff Street Extension of the Dinkytown Greenway.

When the Dinkytown Greenway opened last summer, it provided a bike/ped path from Bridge 9 to TCF Bank Stadium and the U of M Transitway bike/bus route. This summer, the new Bluff Street tunnel extension under I-35W connects cyclists directly from downtown Minneapolis to Bridge 9 (the tunnel entrance is on 13th Ave S, between 2nd St S and West River Parkway). Both projects received federal funding from the Bike Walk Twin Cities federal Nonmotorized Transporation Pilot Program, administered by Transit for Livable Communities. Join us in celebrating this exciting bike/ped connection!

Council members Frey and Gordon will lead two rides to the celebration:
•From downtown Minneapolis: Meet CM Frey at 1:00pm at Gateway Park (Hennepin at 2nd Street S) and join him on a ride to the ceremony
•From the east bank: Meet CM Gordon at 1:00pm at TCF Bank Stadium (between gates C & D, on SE 23rd St) and join him on a ride to the ceremony.

Remarks will be at 1:30. Afterwards, join elected officials for a ride through the tunnel.
