February 21, 2011, Monday - Randy Newman at the Guthrie
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: Guthrie Theater, Wurtele Thrust Stage
Randy Newman released his self-titled debut in 1968 and has long been one of the most musically and lyrically ambitious singer-songwriters. More than four decades later, he’s still a master pop-rock craftsman, balancing his career between penning songs and scores for movies such as Toy Story and Cars and releasing well-received solo albums, such as 2008’s Harps and Angels, described by All Music Guide as “quietly wonderful.” The film composer and musician has taken his career to unprecedented heights by winning an Oscar, five Grammys and three Emmys. Most recently, Newman wrote the songs and score for Disney’s The Princess and the Frog and Toy Story 3.
Witness an American-music legend as he performs favorites including Louisiana, Leave Your Hat On, Feels Like Home, I Love to See You Smile and You've Got a Friend in Me live at the Guthrie Theater.
