With over 100 local farmers, food makers and artists, MCFM strives to build a local, sustainable and organic food economy in a vibrant, educational marketplace.

Two days of fun with language, passion and Shakespearean "magic!" Led by experienced classical Guthrie actors, students will undergo training in acting, voice and movement using Shakespearean scenes and sonnets. Wield a staff, be a bawdy clown or a wicked villain! No previous experience with Shakespeare necessary.
The Zenon Dance Company blends cherished nursery rhymes with Tchaikovsky in this witty, madcap holiday romp. A December must-do for families, the 45-minute show enchants children with a real Mother Goose and her delightful entourage of Wee Willie Winkie, Mary Quite Contrary, Little Bo Peep and more. In addition to leaping sky high and twirling with panache, the impeccable Zenon dancers flaunt their versatile acting. “The entire production has a cozy-cottage-and-gingerbread feel that…appeals to kids from 3 to 93” (Pioneer Press).
Preschool-Grade 5. Certified volunteers help put young readers at ease so they can cuddle up with a dog or other animal and practice reading aloud. Call ahead to find out what types of animals will be visiting.

Local D’lish has teamed up with the Mill City Farmers Market to bring you the Winter Farmer-in-the-Market event. This event features about 20-25 vendors, a mix of familiar faces from the Mill City Farmers Market and product vendors here at Local D’lish.
At the Winter Farmer-in-the-Market, customers will find a wide variety of locally grown and produced meats, cheeses, chocolates, breads, sweets, and more! To nurture a strong local foods economy, our farmers and producers must have a stable income year-round, and this monthly event is meant to help in this arena through the winter months.
The 2010-11 Winter Farmer-in-the-Market will be held on the following dates, from 10am – 2 pm:

Get an in-depth look at the historic Washburn A Mill complex and the award-winning Mill City Museum building. A museum interpreter will take visitors into the building's many nooks and crannies, highlighting the lives of the men and women who worked there, how the building functioned during its peak flour milling years and the many changes to the building over time. Also covered will be the challenges of preserving the 120-year-old, fire-damaged building; its art, architecture and interior design; and the St. Anthony Falls Historic District.
Although many parts of the mill can be explored during regular museum visits, this is the public's only opportunity for a guided tour through the entire museum building.
Toys' Stories: Films celebrate life with toys preceded by Choo Choo Bob’s Engineer Paul and his train set.
Preschool (age 3) and up and their families. Children's film curators for the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival will present a pre-show art activity and educational intro for children's films fans before each screening. Seating is first-come, first-served.

It's a party for the pets! Minneapolis Veterinary Hospital is hosting this event to benefit Pet Project Rescue, a non-profit rescue which places homeless animals in foster care homes until they are adopted by their forever families.
Enjoy Lisa's black bean soup, lefse and cupcakes, along with hot cider.
Silent Auction featuring a Georgiana Ewing painting ends at 8:00pm.

In addition to a line up of interesting speakers, elections will be held for the Board of Directors of the Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association (DMNA). There are four seats up for election, and currently three incumbents are running. The terms are two years. Minnesota’s three-time Grammy Award-winning Sounds of Blackness returns with their performance "The Night Before Christmas – A Musical Fantasy," a contemporary adaptation of the beloved poem “A Visit From St Nicholas.” This family-friendly musical production brings Santa, Mrs. Claus and Rudolph the Rappin’ Reindeer to life in hilarious song and dance, as they learn the true meaning of Christmas. The music ranges from R&B/Hip-Hop to Jazz, Blues and Gospel and features Sounds of Blackness singers and band in show-stopping, roof-raising songs and scenes. This is a must-see performance during the holiday season.

At this workshop, MacPhail faculty Jeff Lambert will compose a song with material provided by the student(s), so they can see the songwriting process. By the end of the workshop, Jeff will create one or two completed songs. Students of any level are welcome. Jeff will discuss song form (with examples), how to choose chords (what chords belong in what keys), lyrics and rhyming. Students may actively participate, or merely watch and learn–bring your guitar and songwriting ideas!
Grade 6 and up. Get personalized help with narrowing your topic, developing your paper, identifying primary resources and finding the best library materials. Librarians, Minnesota History Day staff and mentors from the University of Minnesota will help you make sense of your project. Plenty of time for questions.
