December 17, 2019, Tuesday - Prescription Drug Take Back Event at Hennepin County Government Center

Time: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Location: Hennepin County Government Center, 300 S 6th Street, Skyway level

Tuesday, December 17th, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and Hennepin County will host a prescription drug take back event in the Hennepin County Government Center. This event provides Hennepin County employees and anyone who lives or works in downtown Minneapolis an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted and unused medications, eliminating the possibility that they are abused.

Hennepin County Sheriff’s deputies will also hand out free medication disposal pouches for residents who may have additional medications at home that they wish to dispose of properly.

“This event gives people downtown the chance to get rid of old medications before the New Year,” said Hennepin County Sheriff David P. Hutchinson. “We are glad to host our fourth and final take back event of the year in the Government Center. We’re also happy to share that this event came about because of the suggestion of one of our Twitter followers. We always welcome suggestions from the public on how we can serve the people of Hennepin County.”

Last year, about 2 million Americans misused prescription pain relievers for the first time. Flushing medication or throwing it in the trash is bad for our natural environment. Proper storage and disposal of medication is a critical component part of addressing the opioid epidemic. For more information about the opioid addiction crisis and how the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is working to fight it, visit hennepinsheriff.org/stop. The majority of prescription drug abusers say that they obtained their supply of prescription medications from friends and family. Properly disposing of prescription medication, such as opioids, can significantly decrease the likelihood of individuals having access to these highly addictive drugs.

There are over 30 year-round medicine drop boxes located throughout Hennepin County. For a full listing, including a map of locations, visit hennepin.us/medicine.

December 16, 2019, Monday - The Sparkling Wine Masterclass at North Loop Wine

Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Location: North Loop Wine and Spirits, 218 Washington Ave N

The Sparkling Wine Masterclass

Twin Cities Wine Education presents THE SPARKLING WINE MASTERCLASS Featuring Prosecco, Cava, Cremant, Champagne, and everything in-between *** Say "bubbly" and most people can instantly hear the corks popping! Do you? If you do, this class is for you! Bubbly means celebration, good times, special occasions, and more often than not, Champagne. But 'real' Champagne is but one of the many incredible sparkling wines the world has to offer.

In this class, we will learn about everything Bubbly. We'll discuss Cremant from France, Cava from Spain, Prosecco from Italy, incredible sparkling wines from California, and rare gems from other parts of the world. And of course, Champagne! The real deal! If it's wine and it has bubbles, we will be learning about it and tasting many examples. We will also cover a huge range of other terminology attached to sparkling wine, including the definition of the sweetness levels (Brut, Extra Dry, etc.), the different production methods, and the history of Champagne from the Romans through the World Wars, and up to today. Of course, this will be enhanced by tasting through a wide variety of top-quality sparkling wines.

We will end the class with a philosophical discussion about what makes great sparkling wine and how best to incorporate it into your life outside of special occasions (i.e. food and wine pairings). Included will be the comprehensive Twin Cities Wine Education handouts, maps, articles, and more. You will leave an Expert on Sparkling Wine, guaranteed!

Present Laughter

Matthew Warchus directs Andrew Scott (BBC’s Sherlock, Fleabag) in Noël Coward’s provocative comedy Present Laughter.

As he prepares to embark on an overseas tour, star actor Garry Essendine’s colorful life is in danger of spiraling out of control. Engulfed by an escalating identity crisis as his many and various relationships compete for his attention, Garry’s few remaining days at home are a chaotic whirlwind of love, sex, panic and soul-searching.

Captured live from The Old Vic in London, Present Laughter is a giddy and surprisingly modern reflection on fame, desire and loneliness.
