Engineering the Falls: History Player William de la Barre Tour
Take a walking tour of St. Anthony Falls led by costumed History Player William de la Barre, the Austrian engineer who spent half a century developing Minneapolis flour milling and waterpower. Visit the Minneapolis riverfront, the west side milling district and the Stone Arch Bridge, and hear about the many ways the falls have changed over the years.
This tour includes about 1.5 miles of moderately paced walking on uneven surfaces. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility.

Monica Edwards Larson / Sister Black (Bike) Press’s project Poetry of Resistance& Change consists of two parts: a temporary installation of letterpress printed poetry cards and a poetry reading and DIY printing event, using the mobile bicycle press, at the Soap Factory. The installation will consist of hundreds of letterpress printed poetry cards and broadsides featuring the work of local poets whose work bears witness to the many challenges facing our democracy, the health of our planet and all aspects of human rights that inspire action.
This project is a part of Lit Crawl. Lit Crawl MN boasts a roster of local authors, artists and performers at 10+ different events that range from readings, improv, games, interactive story-building and a hands-on workshop. A celebration of the vibrant literary scene in the Twin Cities, this lively crawl will have something for everyone. Lit Crawl Minneapolis is a project of Bartmann Group and the Litquake Foundation.
Meet at Bryant Lake Bowl, 810 W. Lake St. (in adjacent alley) at 6 pm for a group ride to The Soap Factory. The comfortably paced six-mile route will follow the Midtown Greenway trail to Hiawatha LRT trail to 11th Ave to W. River Pkwy and across the Stone Arch bridge…Food and beer trucks will be waiting! Join local poets for readings and performances at the opening reception. Poets include: D. Allen, Michael Kleber-Diggs, Marion Gomez, Junauda Petrus, Maitreyi Ray, Hawona Sullivan-Janzen and Ben Weaver.

Set in the depths of an antique theater, When I Nod My Head You Hit It With The Hammer follows the story of a handful of walk-on/supernumerary performers. Surrounded by the debris of a thousand old stories and waiting for their cue, they accidentally contemplate their life choices. They must try to stay on the path, not fiddle with anyone else's props and make it back in time for their cue. Comic, poetic and deeply personal, this world premiere new work explores themes of self-doubt, personal adventure, wonder and hope.

Illuminate the Lock: Aaron Dysart, Surface
Surface takes years of handwritten data recorded by Army Corps of Engineers staff as the basis for a light show. Daily pool heights will translate into shifting colors projected on atmospheric effects created in the lock chamber. The spectacle will display the 52 year operating history of this iconic Minneapolis space through near daily observations by the people who tended it.
Illuminate the Lock is a 2-part series of artist interventions that use the 49 foot tall chamber of Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam as a screen for artistic projections.
Presented by Northern Lights.mn, Mississippi Park Connection, the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, and as part of Here & There by The Soap Factory with support from St. Anthony Falls Heritage Board and the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Dress for this night of murderous mayhem includes flapper dresses, zoot suits, feather boas and headbands, pinstriped suits and fedoras. If you aren’t feeling that jive you can dress as a private detective to help solve the crime, just don’t frame the wrong guy!

National Suicide Prevention Week is September 10-16, and in honor of that effort Suicide Prevention Programs at NAMI Minnesota is hosting free educational presentations to the community. On September 14th from 12:30-1:30pm there will be a lunch and learn opportunity in the Minneapolis Skyway.
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) – QPR is a free, one hour presentation that covers the three steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. QPR is the most widely taught gatekeeper training program in the United States, and more than one million adults have been trained in classroom settings in more than 48 states.

Join Council Member Frey at the monthly Wake-Up with Jacob on Wednesday, September 13th, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. Our guest will be new Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo.Known as "Rondo", Chief Arradondo, a Minneapolis native and graduate of Roosevelt High School, joined the Minneapolis Police Department in 1989. He started as a patrol officer in the 3rd Precinct and worked his way up to assistant chief. The 3rd Ward was lucky to have him as the 1st precinct inspector starting in 2014. Rondo is the City of Minneapolis's first African American police chief.

The Mill City Farmer’s Market invites you to join them at their annual Harvest Social to celebrate healthy foods, local farmers and the launch of their Charitable Fund. This new fund will expand the Mill City Farmers Market’s educational and food access programs, partnerships and grants to local, sustainable farmers and food makers.
