The recreational bike tour for all ages and abilities spans the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway System. Proceeds from the 2013 Minneapolis Bike Tour will benefit bike safety and education events for Minneapolis youth as well as bike trail improvement projects throughout the system. We look forward to sharing with you in 2014 the initiatives that were supported through your participation.

There will be two routes of various lengths to participate in and are closed to motorized traffic. Both routes include stops with refreshments and bike mechanics. Stick around after the ride to enjoy LIVE music, New Belgium Beer available to participants 21+ (must show ID), food fromlocal vendors, exhibitor booths, and Bike Tour merchandise for sale!

Beginning with the arrival of Minnesota’s first rail line in 1862, Minneapolis boomed in population, flour milling, lumber production and warehousing as a rail network extended throughout the Upper Midwest. Take a guided tour to discover the impact of railroads on the Mill City, visiting railroad landmarks such as the Stone Arch Bridge, Milwaukee Road Depot and the Minneapolis Eastern Railway engine house and trestle. Along the way find clues to the vanishing railroad landscape and learn about the future of Twin Cities rail. The tour will begin and end at Mill City Museum, where participants can visit the museum’s gallery, included in the price of the tour.

Fee: $14 adults, $12 seniors and college students, $10 children ages 6-17 and MHS members. Includes museum admission.

Welcome to the Mill City Suds Run, brought to you by O'Donovan's Irish Pub!  Join us for this super fun 5K "run, walk or whatever" on Saturday, September 14th.  Put on your running shoes, costume if you like and join thousands for the 22nd running of the Suds Run (formerly Blubber Run).

The tradition of this great event continues!  Great run course starts at and crosses the Stone Arch Bridge, onto Missisippi River Parkway, over the Plymouth Ave Bridge into Boom Island (where you can enjoy a brew and catch some live music), onto Nicollet Island and to the cobblestone of historic SE Main St to the finish line at Father Hennepin Park. 

This is a family friendly event so bring the entire crew!

Enjoy snacks, a BBQ lunch & some brews all to live Rock 'n Roll music at the band shell in the park. 

Speedy runner, or not, don't fret, costumes, creativity and a great sense of fun count most in this 5K race. Bring your friends, bring the pet, bring the kids, wear your goofiest outfit, just show up and join in the fun.
 
There are prizes for the Best Costume, Best Group Costume, Best Pet/Human Costume, Best Kid/Adult Combo, Fastest Male Runner and Fastest Female Runner.  It's a real 5K, with the extra trimmings.  Where else do you get beer (or root beer) at the water stop?  Water is optional!

From Mill To Museum: The Hidden History of the Washburn Complex, 1965-2003

Fee: Free

“From Mill to Museum” is an exhibit of dramatic images and words about the Washburn A Mill from the years it sat abandoned between 1965 and 2000. After General Mills shut down the mill in July 1965, this National Historic Landmark sat unused except for a few tenants, curiosity seekers and homeless people. The exhibit will uncover this little-known period in the history of the building that is the home of Mill City Museum. It will feature photos from final years of flour milling, redevelopment plans by preservation pioneer Peter Nelson Hall, depictions of the abandoned mill by local artist Mike Lynch and photographer Matt Porath, words and photographs by JobyLynn Sassily-James who took shelter in the building during a period of homelessness in the 1990s, and studies by Tom Meyer, the architect of Mill City Museum. The exhibit is located in the museum’s central Mill Commons, and is free and open to the public during regular museum hours.

It will be on display through Dec. 31, 2013.

This September 12-15, join us as Only A Dim Image Dessert Theatre presents its inaugural performance in association with The Southern Theater.  See the sparkly Lerner and Loewe musical “Gigi” on this gorgeous stage, performed with a professional orchestra.  Our production aims to add an artistic and enchanting flair to this hidden gem of a musical on the dawn of the recently planned Broadway revival.
 
Based on Colette’s novel and the 1958 motion picture, GIGI transports us to the elegant atmosphere of Paris in 1902.  The show centers on the beautiful romance between Gigi, a free-spirited, teenage Parisian who is being brought up to be a courtesan in her family’s tradition, and Gaston Lachailles, one of the most notorious playboys in Paris.  While Gaston sees Gigi as nothing but a child, playing cards with her and bringing her caramels, he soon realizes that Gigi has become a lovely and captivating young woman who has her own ideas regarding love.  The show includes the songs, “Thank Heaven for Little Girls,” “The Night They Invented Champagne,” and many more!
