Project Peace Paper: Peace Takes Shape (Peace Paper Workshop)
Project Peace Paper is a public project celebrating peace with innovative crowd-sourced wrapping paper. Peace Paper features a unique collage of peace imagery and has been displayed in public spaces all over Minneapolis – including bus stops, vacant storefronts and school hallways. This summer, MCBA is helping to build momentum for the movement by hosting several maker events that will use this engaging paper in new and exciting ways – culminating in an exhibition in MCBA’s Outlook Gallery.
Join us as we draw and paint visions for peace and explore the artful possibilities of using Peace Paper to create a collaborative sculpture. MCBA will host making sessions on Tuesday, May 8; Tuesday, June 12; and Saturday, July 28. These events are free and open to all ages.

Location: A-Mill Artist Lofts, 315 Main Street SE
Discover the story of the National Historic Landmark Pillsbury A Mill, the largest flour mill in the world for many years, which recently reopened as the A-Mill Artist Lofts. A Mill City Museum guide will lead a tour of the former milling complex including the rooftop deck and the basement waterpower facilities.
Highlights include the largest and best-preserved waterpower system in Minneapolis, with views straight down a 50-foot drop shaft through a glass floor. Guests will discover how the building functioned during the flour milling era, see the architectural highlights of the recently completed A-Mill Artist Lofts built within the historic mill buildings, and learn about the new hydroelectric plant that helps to power the complex. This tour is presented in partnership with A-Mill Artist Lofts.
The tour includes about 1.5 miles of moderately-paced walking indoors and outdoors with some uneven surfaces. Tours begin at the gray door on 3rd Avenue SE at Main Street (around the corner from the main entrance at 315 Main Street SE).

Take an in-depth look at the historic Washburn A Mill complex and the award-winning Mill City Museum building. This is the only opportunity for a guided tour through the entire museum building and the only chance to see some of its nonpublic spaces.

Head Football Coach, University of Minnesota
P.J. (Philip John) Fleck was named head football coach at the University of Minnesota on January 6, 2017. Fleck is the 30th head coach in the program’s history. He has a career record of 35-29.
Fleck led a young and inexperienced Gopher squad in 2017, as 49 of Minnesota’s 110 players (44.5%) were freshmen or redshirt freshmen and 76 (69%) were underclassmen. Fleck guided Minnesota to a 5-7 record and those five wins were the most by a first-year Gopher head coach new to the program since the legendary Murray Warmath won seven games in 1954.

The Guthrie is proud to present Full Circle Theater’s world premiere production of Under This Roof, by longtime Twin Cities actor and theater artist Barbara Kingsley. Directed by award-winning actor/director James A. Williams, Under This Roof centers on Mamie and Raymond Warren, who live in the segregated black neighborhood of central Cleveland in the late 1940s. After Raymond suffers a serious accident, Mamie hires a white woman named Bessie, whose arrival brings new challenges. Under this Roof examines issues that resonate with today’s realities: race, gender, aging, power, family, disability and love, on an ever-shifting axis, with unexpected results that are comic, painful and healing.
