Discover Minneapolis' rich history and satisfy your thirst with a history pub crawl along Washington Avenue. Travel down this busy thoroughfare and hear about the importance of railroads, warehousing, flour milling, immigration, entertainment and vice to the story of Minneapolis. An air-conditioned bus will take participants through the neighborhoods along Washington Avenue from 35W to Plymouth Ave. N, with stops at a number of historic sights, including two watering holes housed in historic buildings.

The tour includes two blocks of moderately paced walking. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility. Tours are held rain or shine. Ages 21 and up only. Drink purchases are not included in the tour price. Drink specials will be made available at participating locations.

Proposed Development

US Bank has been reducing its “brick and mortar” practically everywhere in the country due to changes in the way bank services have evolved in the age of the internet. The US Bank building and site on East Hennepin is far larger than they need and has been on the sale block for many years. Since US Bank will continue to have an office in the neighborhood in a smaller facility, they want a quality development site and have turned down numerous offers in the past.

Recently, the Bank has entered into an agreement with the  Mortenson Development, a major local developer/builder most famous currently as the builder of the Vikings Palace, to develop the site. Preliminary design is for a high-density mixed-use residential & retail project.

US Bank – Mortenson Task Group (USMTG) Formed

As NIEBNA has done for other major developments in the neighborhood, an ad hoc Task Group has been formed to handle neighborhood comment and review on the development. Kick off Northern Spark's 5th year and start your adventure under the night sky in the impressive Mill City Museum Courtyard with artistic food curated by 8 amazing local restaurants, specialty cocktails, local brews, coffee, music performances, and visual art.

Experience the dramatic historic spaces of the Washburn A Mill all night long with artist projects, performances and activities throughout the building. Watch silent films about the working class with live musical accompaniment by Dreamland Faces. Listen as the cast of Mill City Summer Opera’s 2015 production of Daughter of the Regiment perform famous arias and scens, twisted into different musical genres and styles.

Visit the eighth-floor offices of MSR for an a spatial architectural experience and spectacular views of the Ruin Courtyard and the Minneapolis Riverfront. Enjoy performances by costumed History Players, storytelling, and a history-related art project. View the new exhibit “Remembering the Bohemian Flats: One Place, Many Voices,” developed by University of Minnesota Students.  Admission to the exhibit galleries is free and open from 9:00 pm to Midnight, including the Flour Tower multi-media show, Water Lab, Baking Lab and  9^th floor Observation Deck. Relax and recharge with food and beverage by D’Amico (9:00 pm to midnight).

This bike tour led by Recovery staff with festival artists and organizers will cover key installations and art projects across the city and provide the company of a group ride along the way.
