We are absolutely giddy to learn that JAMF Software is providing the seed money for the Power of Produce (PoP) program! Per Katherine Heilmann, MCFM Marketing and Events Manager, they expect to see their 500th PoP member sign up this Saturday, August 22, during the Market. This program is free to participants, but is an additional expense the Market must cover. As a non-profit, they rely on sponsors and proceeds from their annual Harvest Social to operate. So, a big thank you to JAMF for being a part of this important program!
The Mill City Farmers Market launched the PoP program this year. It's an excellent way to get kids ages 5-12 involved in the Farmers Market experience. The program includes a veggie passport and weekly $2 market tokens to be spent on a fruit or veggie of their choosing, plus samples that show kids how to enjoy snacking on these items.
It's easy, too! Each child's active passport is kept on file at the Market - so no need for the parent or guardian to keep track of it. Participants stop by the booth to get their passport stamped, pick up a token to use that day and enjoy a sample. (Tokens can also be saved and spent at a future market for a larger purchase.) Kids can join the club anytime during the program period.
The Power Of Produce (POP) Club is a nationally recognized kids program that started at the Oregon City Farmers Market in May 2011 to empower kids to make healthy food choices and introduce them to where their food comes from.
